I have both and can see good and bad in both.
My little man is confident and an excellent guard dog, but took til 6 months to toilet train totally and will run off if the gate is ever left open.
My little girl toilet trained straight away and will walk beside us off a lead but she's got little confidence and cowers to strangers.
Both are adorable and very loving but my choice if I didn't have any would be dog.

I have to say I cant choose as I two have both male and female and its one of my females that barks at every thing all the time ( Tia ) she drives me mad but my other 3 girls are good. Then theres midnight he's just quiet .

I love the boys, I have 3 boys and would always favor a boy over a girl.
You don't have to worry about season's, in my experience they boys are more loving.
I don't have a problem with the boys marking in the house i think that's is the main thing that put people off boys, but with correct training i don't see there being a problem could have a problem.
