It is a very good idea to get your apso used to their teeth being cleaned
as early as possible.
As this should become a daily routine for them,
as routine as you cleaning yours.
It is advisable to clean your apso teeth at least once every day
It is strongly advised that you purchase a canine toothpaste.
Dog toothpaste comes in various flavours.
It is also advisable to purchase a canine tooth brush.
Either a finger tooth brush or handled one,
there are electric ones available as well.
The entire process of cleaning your apso teeth
should not take any longer than one minute.
To start the introduction of cleaning teeth.
First of all get a small pea sized amount of the canine toothpaste
on your finger.
Allow your apso to taste it.
Then gently wipe your finger along the upper gum.
Continue doing this,
until you are able to put your finger along each side of the upper gum and the lower gums.
Once your apso is happy allowing you to touch their gums,
then introduce the tooth brush.
Start again by putting the tooth brush on the upper gums and then the lower.
When placing the tooth paste on the tooth brush,
please ensure that the tooth paste has been pushed down into the
toothbrush rather than sitting on the top.
The reason for this is, that the bristles will get in between your
apso's teeth,
therefore more of the toothpaste will end up having contact with your apso's teeth,
rather than just the top of the tooth and gum line.
When brushing their teeth,
you should be using small circular movements with the tooth brush
from the back of the mouth to the front along the gum line.
Hold the tooth brush a slight angle about 45 degree.
When cleaning your apso's teeth,
you should always start with the upper teeth.
As the upper teeth are more prone to plague.
As we all know
apso want to do what you do,
they want to be where you are.
This is a really good way of allowing your apso
to see you cleaning your teeth,
before you turn to clean there's.
