JODIE and the beardie puppies

Just thought that i would get this ready so that i can tell you all about the pups when they are born was going to put it in whelping but then thought .......... Jodie is a beardie not a Lhasa but people may want to see or read all about the few days before and after the pups arrive. After all beardies Lhasas they are all the same when giving birth they are dogs having puppies although the beardies are a little bigger than the Lhasas. Even though the Lhasas think they are bigger!!!.

Well its 11:55 am Tuesday 22th July 2008 - Yesterday Jodies Temp dropped it has been about 100.2 - 101 and yesterday it dropped to 98.6 (last litter it dropped to 98.2) its gone up again today this morning it was 100.4 and at 11:30 it was 99.5 so i am a little unsure whether its going to be very soon or if she's going to wait and have them at the week-end.
The first mating was on the Wednesday which would mean that she was 63 days tommorrow but then there was a second mating on the Saturdayso she could be 63 days on the Saturday and Ryan just wanted to make absolutely sure so he mated her again on the Monday so is she 63 days on Monday????? she was panting a bit last night and a couple of noises/cries but soon settled down to sleep. Today she is sleeping loads and hasn't left my side since yesterday. at the moment she's lying right by my chair as i type this. She loves her food and has eaten everything she is given straight away (sometimes looking like i am starving her) BUT today she ate just less that half her meal, i have offered her it again and she had 1 mouthfull and left it, SO i am thinking that it could be very close. Jodie loves her food but only eats what she needs she's not a greedy dog. but i know that the amount what i put down this morning would normally have been eaten straight away i have split her feeds into 3 as its too much all in one go, i don't think that there is much room in there for much food. I remember last time she slept all night and all the following day as if she knew and was reserving her energy for the birth................. hopefully that's what she's doing right now. She also looks a lot fatter than she did last time, she put on 5 inches round her loin last time and had 5 puppies this time she's put 8.5 inches on so does that mean 8 or 9 pups????????????

Obviously I cannot comment because Ive never been through it (yet :lol:) but from how you have described everything, common sense tells me that it sounds as though she is very close to giving birth. If I were you, I'd give Leeds a miss and stay put even if she does have the pups before Sunday.............I think Jodie would like to have her Mum close by :-D ................. What is the correct temperature by the way and is it usual for it to drop when the time is near? And if so, how low is dangrous? More questions I know but of course this is something else that I need to know. Sorry for going slightly off the subject in hand here.

I really hope Jodie goes through the birthing successfully without any complications Pauline and as you have posted previously, she seems to be very healthy so should be absolutely fine. I bet she looks really huge now :lol: and I can't wait to see some pics of her pups.................any chance she may have more then 8??? Sorry, don't mean to panic you :lol:

Yes Lia when the temp drops (usually about 98.2) then she would start to have pups within 24 hours or at least start showing signs...... which i think she is. This is very normal Lia and i start to take the temp about 5 days before any pups are due. Thats how i knew that Phoebes were on their way.

I could still make it to Leeds if she has them before Sunday she loves her dad too but i think at the moment because i am in the house she knows that if things start to happen then i am here but if i went out she would be beside Ray.

Jodie does look huge much bigger in the last 2 weeks. At 6 weeks i wasn't sure if she was pregnant or not, i was in two minds. and yes she could have more than 8 i just keep thinking that last time they were big pups and she had 5 but everyone said that they were very big pups.

If i do get to Leeds it will be a funny sight when i get back in the house as what i tend to do is Strip off completely have a shower and put clean clothes on then all my clothes that i have worn go straight into the wash. i also do that if i go anywhere where there are other dogs, you can never be too careful. There will always be someone with Jodie while the pups are little until they are about 4 weeks old, hubby & i take turns each to puppy sit and the family know that they wont see us out together for a few weeks.

Wednesday 23/07/08 9:40am well i have been up since 4:30 am my choice not Jodies, went to the loo as usual and Jodie followed me she slep loads yesterday and didn't want to eat much panted a little last night but it was a hot night (i mean the weather).
Anyway when Jodie followed me i noticed that her back legs and tail looked soaking i went back into the bedroom to look and the rug (large one) where Jodie lay was wet. I did think that maybe she had had a wee and then lay in it with pups pushing against her bladder. well dried her and put a big blanket in the kitchen beside me and she's slep till just now when i went to the garage and she followed me,........... when she stood up out came more fluid and also a mucus plug so i can safely say we are having pups very very soon. Saying that she is very relaxed and lying on the blanket fast asleep again, its me whos nervous. Jodie is such a sweetheart and just looks at me with her georgious eyes she's very trusting and sticks right by my side. She just knows that when the time comes i will be there for her, like she is with me, she has this sixth sence and is the first to know when something is wrong with me or Ray, and stays by us all the time.

So..............its just wait and see will post as soon as i can

Nancy ordered a camera Panasonic FZ18 from e-bay what a bummer i have gone to pay for it and now it says my card needs to be verified could take up to 3 days apparently you have a limit of £1000 a year and you can't go over that unless you verify your card so i have to wait to play with my new toy i will have beardie pups to practice on though

Well after sleeping all morning Jodie has decided to pant again she is very relaxed totally different to the last time she had pups 3 1/2 years ago seems to be taking it all in her stride!!!!! well i wish she would start to run jog, sprint but again its too hot here at the minute there is just no cool air so that why she is panting (but i doubt it) her bump has also dropped so she has a bit of a shape again when you look at her from the top when she's standing. until the next episode.........................

Its 12:45 pm and i have had Jodie out for a nice bumpy ride in the car and then a nice walk just Jodie & Ebony, Ebby walked as far as Jodie and kept up all the way she is really good on the lead now but when we got back to the car she just collapsed down on the grass and decided she wasn't going any further. We didn't go that far as wherever i walked i was aware that Jodie had to walk back too and didn't want her delivering pups in the middle of the park. We (Jodie & me ) went to bed abot 11:00pm she just lay panting still don't know if its the weather or labour, i was up at 2:30am as she was a little unsettled, took her into the garage listened to her tummy and could hear pups, then we went back to bed woke with her crying at 4:15pm thought right this is it went through the conservatory outside where Jodie squatted down had a wee and stopped crying. so we came into the kitchen for coffee Ebby wasn't in her cage Ollie had made his bed there so i was prepared for a wee or poo on the floor and guess what not a thing.... what a brilliant puppy she is. Well i had my coffee my friend was down by 7:00am and we listened again for heart beats this time i heard 3 lots in different places also felt puppies move which has made me feel a lot better as i was starting to worry. Never had a bitch loose waters and a mucous plug and not go into labour soon afterwards. But Jodie is just going to keep me (and you ) guessing. Should start a competition........ When Are Jodies Pups Due?????? Day time and how many, your guess is as good as mine.

Again will keep you updated hope there's some good news soon

Awwww bless!!! I can picture you trudging along with them both and saying " please dont have them while we're out " :lol:.............. and I forgot about the water and mucous plug bit :-o ...........so, from what you have said, I reckon she will have the pups some time soon - say this evening to early hours of the morning and I say she will have 7!!!!! :-D

And as for Ebony, sounds like she is coming along absolutely brilliantly!!!

I didn't realise that bitches could go so long afterwards as I imagined that once this had happened, the pups would 'fall out' if she stood up :oops: A silly thought I know :lol: Oh yes, baby wipes - will make sure I have some to hand.

Theres still flud coming away but she's very happy just lying there sleeping keeping me well on my toes every movement i watch her. Nancy my camera arrived 7:00am this morning only paid for it yesterday afternoon and its here so i am playing around with it taking loads of photos, bet the battery runs out when i need it though

Well i have now decided that this "fluid" could be urine it has no smell but it seems to happen every time Jodie stands up after lying down, i think that what is happening is that the pups may be lying on her bladder just like in humans i think that that is what is happening with Jodie, so now i can relax and might be able to get some sleep finally. If she hasn't had them by Sunday i might have to miss Leeds, Ray keeps telling me to go he can manage but i want to be here but i also want to be at Leeds. If she has them tonight i would be happier going to Leeds on Sunday as Ray is great looking after them but delivering them????? i don't know

JODIE HAS PUPPIES here goes its going to be quick as i have been up all night again she started digging a little at about 7pm, by 11:30pm nothing so we went to bed Me Ray & Jodie, i was woken by Jodie crying at 12:40am she needed a wee but after her wee she wanted to go into the garage. went into the garage she went straight into the whelping box, and paced around lay down and went to sleep. About 3am she cried a little dug a bit cleaned herself lay down and went off to sleep again, by 5:30am i was shattered Jodie was sleeping so i closed my eyes........ 5:45 i woke hearing a little cry i looked down and Jodie seemed as suprised as me there under her tail was a pup. i jumped up and there was only half a pup the rest wasn't even out. so this is how they were born colours and weight too..... i didn't know if i wanted a black or brown girl.

1. 5:45am - Tri Boy 11.5 oz
2. 6:55am - Brown boy 12.5 oz
3. 7:05am - Brown boy 13 oz
4. 7:55am - Black boy 10 oz
5. 8:00am - Black girl 11.5 oz
6. 9:40am - Brown boy 12 oz
7. 9:45am - Brown Girl 10.5 oz
8. 11:03am Black boy 12.5 oz

Total weight of 93.5 oz (8 pups 3 brown dogs 3 black dogs 1 brown bitch 1 black dog) Total whelping time start to finish 5 hours 18 minutes not bad for 8 puppies
Mum and babies are doing excellent proud father lazing around

Have time now to get Shadow bathed and ready for tomorrow i am having a day off Ray is puppysitting, he's told me to go to Leeds its just over an hour away. So its a very early night for me.

Had a great day at Leeds and came home to a very settled Jodie and pups but a bit of a stressed Ray, he had been trying to get Jodie to eat and drink all day but she wouldn't leave her bed and the pups. so he was putting water and food very close to her so she could get it lying down. i came in and she hadn't had a wee all day so i went to her and just said Jodie come have a wee and out she came had a wee & poo a drink of water some food and ran back to her babies. She's absolutely loving them. this morning i know how Ray feels i had to almost lift her out so she could have a wee and also so that i can check the puppies. but they are fine they have all put weight on and their little noses are all turning black or brown they have fantastic piugment, I picked up the 2 little girls and showed Ray last night i think he knows now that one of them is staying. (Maybe he's not as daft as i think) Its going to be really hard to choose they are both lovely. I have a couple of friends that no doubt will guide me on which one, i think i know but will wait to see what they say, one of these is my friend Cath who has Ryan the pups dad she also owns Phoebe who has the lhasa puppies (Ollies babies) she's really good but don't tell her i said that.

Yesterday i passed on the link to a few more friends for them to come on here so we might have more new members.

Oh Pauline - gorgeous!!!! That face!!!! Hey, big pup!!! I love the colour - is brown one of the main colours or is brown unusual for a Beardie? You know, like Gold for an Apso is a regular colour but Grey is'nt for example - if you get my meaning. xxxxxxxxxxx

So glad to hear both mom and puppies are doing fine. Can't wait to hear what puppy you plan to keep. They all sound so nice. Don't know much about Beardies. The puppy does look big in the picture

in beardies you have Black, Brown, Blue & Fawn all have white on them on their faces and collars some have more white than others, but their body and around the eyes have the colour. Some beardies stay black Candy id 6 and is still black but most blacks turn slate, they change their coat at a very early age. There are not many fawns shown but i think they are increasing but most are slate or brown as a blue is a dilute of slate and a fawn is a dilute of brown. Lhasas coat colours can vary so much but beardies are usually a solid colour with the white collar if they have white on their eyes or body or ears these are usually mismarked and are not shown.

Jodie's last litter were bigger than this litter weighing from 13oz to 15 oz this litter weighed 10oz and the heaviest was 13 oz

There are a few with that thumb print but you can't see it on this photo. Jodie had the same when she was little but it soon grows out when the fur grows
