I wondered if anyone believes in buying the most expensive and best brushes, combs etc for grooming your poppets or have you bought the cheaper brands and found them to be just as good.

When I first had Honey (then the other two :-D), I did'nt have a clue and now I have a multitude of different tools - some good and some 'middle-of-the road' but even still, I find that they all work as good as each other.

I don't find much difference between them. So my point is, is it necessary to buy the 'top brand names' when the cheaper brands do the same job?

i think with a lot of stuff, you get what you pay for, but if you look around some places sell the exact same stuff but at a much cheaper price xxx

I went through a lot of combs until I found the right one for Diesel, and his groomer bought him that so Im not sure how much it cost lol!!!
His scissors are direct from the vets...they are the curved ones and they were only £3.

ive 2 fave combs one cost eight quid and the other was 2 pounds fifty, so price doesnt bother me when it comes to my dogs, it's whats suits them and works for them the best that matters to me, so i'll pay whatever it takes if i find something thats suits them best xxx

I've had loads of brushes.. I've finally found one that i absolutely love. it is a chris christensen (sp?) one and it was about £17. That's not that expensive when you consider the price of mason and pearson brushes! I also have a bristle and nylon one from dezyna dogs ... £3 ish ... I got what i paid for there!

My two best combs: £6 and £3. My two worst combs: £16 and £6. What can i say?

I think it's just a matter of finding what's right for your own dogs coat. I hope these brushes and combs will be all right for my next dogs coat too .. but i've kept the other ones just in case they work out better for a diferent texture.

All in all I've spent a fortune on grooming stuff for raven and most it is never used. Now that i've got the brush, comb, shampoo etc that I think works for her, I never use anything else!

I quoted somewhere else Nancy about the price of these scissors and they are £10 from my vets including VAT, thank god! How on earth do your vets sell them so cheaply!!! xx

I have the mason & pearson brushes too Pamela they are no good for the Lhasas but they are great for the beardies, Ignis also do one very similar to mason & pearson. I had a M&P for my daughters when they were young my oldest now uses it on my grandayghter so the brush is 30 year old Rays mam bought it for Rachel when she was born It was beautiful for the girls hair

Yes Pamela my girls always had beautiful hair and never a split end. I think my Mother-in-law paid about £32 for a large one 30 years ago but we did get a free horsehair brush too

In that case, I may buy some just for myself xxxxxxxxxxx

I use a comb for double coats and then go over it with a denman brush. I don't think it really makes a difference how much the tools cost as long as they do a good job and don't tare the hair.

I have a lot of brushes and combs, the best for me is the porcupine brush from Plush Puppy, with this I can remove mats easily with no damage of the coat. I also have one brush from Hindes which I like. On show I take a Chris Christensen brush for finishing before I go in the ring
