...........Love this description I just came across!!!...............

"The Lhasa Apso temperament is unique: joyful, mischievous and clown-like, as well as regal, dignified and aloof. Because of their expressive facial features, owners often remark on their "human-like" qualities and sensitivity to human feelings, claiming their dogs "can almost talk." Probably no two Lhasa personalities are exactly alike.

A very independent breed, the Lhasa's goal in life is not necessarily to please its master. This is very different from most breeds of dogs. While Lhasas can be trained successfully in obedience using the right methods for this breed, they are not, by nature, an obedient breed. Lhasas are very intelligent with the ability to reason, and can even be somewhat manipulative. Therefore, consistency is a crucial element in their training, much as it is with raising children. If a Lhasa owner does not establish him or her self as the "leader of the pack," then it is almost guaranteed that the Lhasa will assume that role!

Lhasa puppies are very busy, full of energy and curiosity, becoming calmer and dignified, yet still playful, as adults. A slow maturing breed, Lhasas do not reach their prime until well into their third or fourth year. New owners need to keep this in mind when house training Lhasa puppies. Because Lhasas live longer than many other dogs, particularly the larger breeds, they develop more slowly. Lhasas age gracefully, however, keeping a youthful appearance and attitude well into their teens. The average lifespan of the breed is 12 to 15 years old, although many have lived to be 17 or 18, and some even beyond 20.

Bred as indoor watchdogs for hundreds of years, Lhasa Apsos are often suspicious of strangers. Lhasas are guardians of their domain, but are usually less protective away from home. Early socialization is critical to a Lhasa's success as a family member, in order to overcome the breed's natural tendency toward wariness of strangers. The time invested in training this long-lived breed, however, will be well worth effort in terms of the loyalty, joy, and long term companionship that this hardy little dog from Tibet will provide throughout its lifetime."

Aah where was that passage from?? I notice they forgot to mention just how stubborn they can be!!xx (and the fact they can actually sulk) My Daisy was the queen of sulking!! I remember years ago the husband was working in germany during the 90's recession, and the girls had a hamster called Samantha.... poor Samantha died, and at the time i had a tummy bug, so to dig the hole in the garden was sooo hard i did it put her in her little box said a prayer and laid down on the settee dozing off...i heard Daisy come in the front room and when i looked she had obv. dug up the hole, and removed Samantha from a cardboard shoe box!! ,and had placed very gently on the fire hearth Samantha, and just looked at me as much to say Mum look who i found shouldn't she be in here?!!! I screamed and told her off, she fled behind the settee, (where she stayed for at least a day looking very sheepish!!!), my next door neighbour heard me scream and came in and we put her back in her shoe box and reburied her.... I picked the girls up from school told them the news they were very upset., and when i looked round later the youngest was holding Samantha in her arms, so she had once again been dug up!!!!!!!! I reburied her and put lots of bricks etc on top.!!!!!!!And she then stayed at peace. Daisy as i said hid for at least a day, no amount of calling would she come out of behind the settee!!!!!!!!!!!! I do actually believe they are more human than other breeds, and true Daisy and Lulu are soo very different., just like my two (human for want of a better word!!) daughters.xx

Oh Yvonne..that is so very funny! I mean, not funny as in funny, but I mean the part about Daisy sulking! Oh and the poor little Samantha oh dear I have just posted about goldfish burials at the same time you posted this how strange!
Yes, Diesel is a dab-hand at sulking.
If we tell him off, it involves him going to bed. After 5 minutes I will say "What did you do Deez?" and thats his signal to give me a kiss and its all over.
BUT......sometimes when I say it, he stands up does a circle and lays back down facing away from me, facing the wall. And he will stay like that for hours. I will keep calling him and I see his ears flitting up and down but he WILL NOT give in!!!!!!! It is hilarious to watch!

Sorry for laughing Yvonne but I can picture your reaction when all this happened lol............it might be funny now but I would imagine it was'nt at the time. This just proves how intelligent our little poppets are and bless, she was probably thinking she was helping you by bringing the hamster back in for you - she may have thought that the little hamster was 'lost' and wanted to bring her back in the house.

Awww I think it was rather sweet what she did if you understand me xxxxxx
