Just after some advice here.....
Diesel has Caesar wet food......and Gucci is on Bakers Puppy dried food.
I feed Diesel when Gucci is asleep in his nursery :D

But, last night Gucci escaped and found about half of Diesels food in the bowl, and scoffed and bolted it down as quick as a flash :o :o :o
(hence, nasty pooh this morning :( )

What is the best way to stop this? Diesel never goes to his food straight away and is a fussy eater...whereas it looks like Guccis the Gannet Of The Planet!! :D
Any ideas?

    OK Nancy, it looks like you will have to remove the dishes from the floor until Gucci is older and changes onto the same food as Diesel - that way, they both have the same

now flynn is off the puppy food all mine get the same and eat in the same room apart from callan (not sure why but he'll only eat his in the kitchen so we just leave him there) but whenever a new dog/pup comes into the home i sit with them while they eat, and if i see someone snooping around a dish that aint theres i say a firm "eh eh no" and if they dont listen i say the same again but i add in a wee shove them out the way, you need eyes like a hawk and to watch all the time, but again perserverence is the key and consistancy, one day the penny drops and they simply stay at there own dishes, now i dont need to bother watching them at all and can see to other things that need done like the dishes etc (worse luck  ) xxx

Ok thank you Pamela...Im sure it will be easier when they are on the same food...how long should I keep Gucci on the puppy food?

it's up to yourself really nancy, i took flynn off puppy food when he reached around 7 months age as i noticed he was loosing interest in it and would try and pinch the others adult food when they were finished, so i gradually put a little in at a time and i noticed he would eat the adult and leave the puppy so now he's on a mix of junior and adult and im thinking that once this junior bag is done just to leave him with the adult
if i remember right i think i took saphire, no i think it was miss emerald off puppy food when she was around 6 months age again cos she was refusing to eat it and would want the adult stuff so again i give her a mix of junior and adult then just weened onto adult, (i bet theyre thinking "ooooow what you got to eat it looks better than mine i want some of what they got please" heheheheheeee xxx

Its so helpful on here, the thing thats funny is that all of our Lhasas seem so similar in their mannerisms and traits! :D I know they each have their own little personalities...but they are all so alike really.......and they dont realise we are conspiring against them on here!

Hmmmmm the main problem being that Diesel is on wet food and Gucci is on dry...
I feed Diesel when Gucci has his naps...he usually has a sleep around mealtimes so thats OK...its just Diesel doesnt always eat his food straightaway, and I have always left his food down for an hour or so, whereas now I am having to take it up quicker...

...how long should I keep Gucci on the puppy food?

Shadow was on puppy food until he was 10 months just because i had plenty till he was that age and wanted to use it up 1st. Both Ollie & Shadow are slow eaters but Shadow always wanted to eat out of Ollies bowl with him (Ollie used to let him) so i then changed him over to the adult food, now Ebony's here she gets the puppy food and Shadow has decided that he likes the puppy food more than his adult food. I have started to give bony hers in her cage as she just wants to go around and clean everyones bowl but leaves her own so by feeding her in her cage she eats hers then i can pick Ollies and Shadows up if they haven't finished, its working better because Ollie & Shadow now eat all their food when i put it down instead of only eating a bit and going back later for it.

I have heard that you should feed them and if they don't eat it all pick it up don't leave it down, you can always give it to them later, this too seems to be working for the boys they clear their bowl straight away now. All of mine have dried food but saying that i have a pan of veg and pasta on at the minute ready for tomorrow they all love that the beardies too.

yup, i leave there dishes doon for half an hour if its not all finished in that time then i lift there dishes and thats that, id say almost all of the time the dishes are clean apart from blue's who will often wait untill later in the night before he will eat his (he's a funny bugger a meal times hehehehee) xx

Wicket and Raven get 10 mins to eat their food then I lift! If they are going to eat all their food it takes them about 5 mins, but if they walk away, then i know they've had enough. I just add their next meal to it later on and put it down again and usually everything is eaten at night.

Crazy pooches! Infact last night all three wanted to share each other's bowls (more often than not too) so I seperated them and I waited ages and none of them would eat because they were seperated so I thought "right - away it goes" and I removed all bowls and didnt put them down until this morning and to be honest, only Lexi has eaten!

I have now thrown the rest away and they wont be getting anymore now until early evening. Only thing is, they know that hubby always gives them some sunday roast but I will make sure they don't have any today until they eat their own food first.

Out of the three of mine, Honey is the slowest eater and eats very steadily and daintily, Lexi just gets on with it and Bruce will scoff the lot if I let him.

If they have a treat, Lexi and Bruce eat theirs and Honey will 'wait' with it infront of her which sets Bruce off barking at her. Lexi just sits and waits patiently but the one thing that none of them will do, is jump up to us when we are eating - they always wait until we are all finished and Im really glad that they are good this way.

Nancy, why don't you try to feed both Diesel and Gucci on dried food now - it would be much easier for you xxxxxxxxxx

Well, today Diesel has utterly turned his nose up at his food and I have just this minute caught him eating Gucci's food again!!!!!
This is getting to be quite comedy.
I have Bakers Puppy for Gucci, and I also have a box of Bakers Small Dog which I had bought for the PDSA, so I think yes I will try Diesel on that now.
Thanks xxx

Wicket is the slowest eater of mine ... he'll come up for air at least!!!

Raven doesn't even chew her food! She just swallows it whole! Her face goes into the dish and it doesn't emerge until she's had her fill ... or she's run out and looking to see if wicket has any left!

Hee hee that sounds like Gucci!! He is a piglet in disguise I am sure its shocking how fast he eats its a wonder he doesnt choke.
He was the only survivor of his litter, and I think thats probably why xx

Well you know that I said that I took the dishes away and that they were not going to have any sunday roast...............they didn't and they still wont eat their food so, if they dont touch it later, it will be removed again until they do! Mind, on saying this, Lexi is the only one that has had 'some' xxx

don't feel bad. i was told (by a guy who's dog won BOB at crufts - not lhasas, some sort of setter) that you should occasionally not feed your dogs for a day. (maybe once every few weeks). this lets them clear the "back log" of food in their system! he said that it was more like they were in the wild where they wouldn't be fed every single day.#

whether it's true or not is a different matter, but i don't worry now if they miss food for a day .. wicket has been up to 2 days without food but on the 3rd day he scoffs it!

ive heard something like this aswell, a lady i know who also has gundogs lets her dogs go without food for a day, she has a rota so its not always the same day each week, and the food they miss out on that day is shared out into there foods for the rest of the week, so really theyre getting the same weekly amount just over 6 days instead of 7, xx

i like the idea of giving it to them over the 6 days. my two are already over fed but i'm sure i could convince them into eating some more! (no matter how much i feed them, they never seem to put on weight - you all know the things I've tried with raven .. although I've not managed to get soya oil yet!)

Well Diesel ate Gucci's dinner and then Xiola's sausage roll...so no chance of him eating his food today then!!
Gucci, on the other hand, is growing a snout and trotters as we speak ...

My Beardie Jodie usually does this herself (obviously not at the minute she's eating for 100 pups i think) but almost every week for 1 day she tends to refuse food and she really enjoys her food. i used to miss a day with my GSD that i had i was advised by the breeder, he said that it clears them out and keeps their appetite good and it worked, if i fed Shelly every day come the 2nd week she would start toleave some food as if she was constantly full, believe it or not my father does that one day a week usually a monday he only has what he calls his square meal a day an oxo drink and he only drinks fluid all day. he's done that for as long as i can remember, he says that he used to eat and drink that much junk (he's really a very healthy eater) that his body needed 1 day to rest like a wild animal. So its not something new.

Lulu still not good with her eating...... even turning up her nose at chicken!!., I never thought i would say this but she is actually worse than Daisy with eating and i thought Daisy was fussy!! However on passing a local high street vet, picked up royal canin, in an small bag, the other night i sat on the settee and opened it, like i do crisps (Lulu only likes smokey bacon and cheese & onion!!!!!!!!) but she ate the royal canin., i put the rest in her bowl, not interested., then later on the cats must have knocked on the floor the few remaining in the bag onto the kitchen floor, and low and behold in came Lulu bag in her mouth and was eating them!! I have bought a big bag of this and given her some tonight (along with roast pork!!)and she has eaten it.. Hurrayy., please god she will like this one.xx Oh and i could never not put any food down just in case, she is soooo faddy, just like Daisy sometimes could go a couple of days without food.. i used to worry, but then remembered my eldest when younge didn't have time to eat , she was hyperactive i cut out e numbers 22 years ago with her when she was 2, the health visitor(who didn't have any children) said oh she is so tiny , got out graphs etc.. and said i must go to the doctors. I rushed there straight away so worried, my Doctor was furious with the health visitor he told me (while the eldest was busy dismanteling his office!!) if she is listless, looks ill etc then worry whilst she is full of energy and healthy she will eat what she needs when she wants, do not worry., so i apply the same to then Daisy and now Lulu.xx
