Connie had a weeping area at ther corner of her mouth a couple of months ago. Vet said it was eczema. Vet also said she still had some baby teeth and if she ever needed an op then they would remove them at the same time. Managed to get it cleared.
This week it has flared up again and is now on both sides of her mouth. Took her to vet yesterday who is now saying it is caused by the baby teeth making her drool. I certainly haven't noticed her drooling. She has no problems eating.
I spoke to the lady who looks after them when I'm away and also grooms them. She used to breed lhasa's but now breeds spaniels. She told me she reckons it's a stress thing. Because we'd left her and have now came back. Said it would probably recurr when she went into season or if Connie ever felt stressed about something. She also said she never noticed any signs of drooling, as she groomed them while they were with her. She also said she could 'crack' her baby teeth if I took her over as it's best not to sedate dogs if you don't have to. If she cracked them they would fall out by themselves. Has anyone ever heard of this and what do you think? Not sure what to do for the best.

Hi, now I dont know really but it reminded me of my rabbit...
Her sore area around her chin had been caused by a tooth which was rubbing when she ate things, and that caused dribble (which I did NOT see) and hence soreness...when they examined her it had caused a little ulcer.
Dont know if thats relevant but thought I would mention it anyway xx

I Know someone with beardies that had a dog with sore mouth, it was at very corners of its mouth this was due to the dog having a small flap at either corner of the mouth and sometimes fur or food would stick around there causing it to break the skin as long as it was cleaned after eating this problem soon disappeared, some dogs have a small flap others don't. Just an idea i know one of mine has fur constantly in his mouth at the corners

She's fine. Not fazed at all. Been bathing her mouth and applying cream. Also having to clean the tears from her nose. She seems to have a fold of skin there too which results in the tears collecting. This is making her sore there too. Applying cream also. Hopefully with regular bathing I should be able to keep this under control. Will continue bathing these areas regularly once they have healed. Hopefully this should keep it in check.
Sorry that Im just replying Margaret but Ive been trying to get hold of someone to get a second opinion for you but I was unsuccessful. Anyway, I hope Connie is ok in herself and hope this clears up pretty soon xxxxxxxxxx
Pebbles my oldest girl,
sometimes gets scabbed area's
either side of her mouth,
the point where top lip meets up with the bottom lip.
This is caused by small particles of food getting trapped
mixing watery mixture of secretions from the salivary and oral mucous glands,
that lubricates chewed food.
This I know is painful for Pebbles,
as I comb away loose debris
then apply an application of anti-septic cream,
that I entirely rub in.
If I don't rub it in,
then she licks it of
which defeats the objected of doing it.
By checking a couple of times a day
especially after eating,
that her mouth her is clear of food remnants
this is avoided.
It may be an added job to their daily health routine,
but once again like us,
we are all different and require individual hygiene care
but ensuring that the mouth is clear
avoids build up and future possible pain.

Thanx KERIS, Been bathing these areas regularly. They are nicw and clean and now just have to heal.
Do you have any experience of baby teeth being 'cracked'. She still has baby teeth and is 11 months old. The vet says best to remove them. The lady who grooms and looks after them when we're on holiday says she would crack them and they would fall out by themselves. She is a breeder and shows dogs herself. My two adore her.
Omg the sound of cracking teeth make me shudder   :o ;) xx

Yeah. Me too :o :o :o :o Couldn't watch that :( :( :( :(
Her mouth doesn't seem to be getting better. I've bathed it and put the cream on faithfully since Thursday. Difficult to stop her scratching it though which makes it bleed. Give it a couple more days and if it doesn't settle down I'll ask vet to give her something for the itch.

Oh poor little love...thats a good idea getting something from the vets...Its so difficult to heal around the mouth, cos its always moist..
My son Joe has suffered since he was 6 with dermatitis around his mouth, and its awful cos it takes forever to heal cos its always moist and harbouring more bacteria.
Hope she gets better soon hun xxxxxxx
