View Full Version : Possible Veterinary Aid
Hi everyone, you may be a bit surprised at the following and for the moment Ive had to put this topic into this category just for the time being but, please read on..............
Just to let you all know that I have spoken with Maxine who is (as some of you will know) the trusted lady who looks after my pooches when we are on holiday.
She is the receptionist at my vet's practice and although she does not have the qualifying papers, she has been with the practice for years and has just as much experience as a qualified veterinary nurse. She assists with ALL the operations and knows exactly what to do - believe me. I know this because the Practice is in one of our commercial units and has been for years and I go there at the beginning of each month to read the utility meters for each unit and I have more often than not entered and witnessed Maxine assisting operations etc.
Anyway, I have asked her if she would like to be 'Resident Forum Veterinary Advisor' and she said that she would love to be. She is waiting for confirmation from me but, she needs to speak with her superior first and foremost and Im sure you will all understand why she has to do this.
Her capacity on here, if this is successful, would be to advise on 'everyday' ailments ranging from Worming Tablets, Flea Treatment, Sickness in general, Injuries, to how to clip claws etc etc, to what to do in an emergency in her opinion, but, any major problems will be dealt with by your own veterinary surgeons irrespective of her advice. This has to be the case for legal reasons and although Maxine will be more than capable of advising you, she will have no alternative but to 'tread carefully' as I am sure you will realise.
I can only say that I have to wait for the outcome of her decision following her meeting with her superior and hope that she will be able to become part of the team. I held off from mentioning this earlier because I needed to seriously think whether or not this would be a feesible option beforehand.
I would appreciate your thoughts and respect your views. What do you all think about this?
Love Lia xxxxxxxxxxx

im fine with that, the more info i learn about dogs in all aspects of care is what i enjoy, as a dog person i love nothing more than learning about the breeds and how to look after them and care for them, by means of training methods, health care, there natural ways everything, if this does happen i will listen to her opinions just the same as i listen to everyone elses opionions on here, but at the end of the day my dogs come first and ill be out to the vets regardless if i feel its needed xxx

Hi Lia to tell the truth i wouldn't be suprised if her superiors said no, They will want to cover their backs just in case there's any come back to them. Its really like my profession, i could come on here and advise using my personal opinions and advice, but professionally i couldn't advise..... I too like Pamela would value her expertise and it would be great to have her here, but what she would have to say or have attached to each post would be that this is her personal opinion and advice or in her experience, or some arkward people could come back and say "well **** told me to do that, and she works at such-and-such vets" if she adds this to her posts then she is like the rest of us and only giving her opinion or experience although she will have loads more advice to give than most of us, then there would be no come back to her or to her vets for that matter,
Just a thought but i would love to welcome her onto the forum it would be great,
Love Pauline xxxx
Thank you both for your views, much appreciated. Maxine would actually make it clear that 'it would only be in her opinion' etc etc as she does know the situation and also she would never reveal the name of the practice she is with. So it would only be in an 'advisory' capacity only and would be a good thing for anyone with queries over minor ailments. At the moment, nothing has been confirmed. xxx

Its a great idea Lia she wouldn't really need permission from her employers, i wouldn't its like us saying don't give your dogs chocolate we have read it and heard it somewhere, its common knowledge, but have we looked into who said it in the first place or where the info came from????? if we did we would need to site where the info came from, we are advising each other all the time, just like your friend is willing to do but as i said she has lots more experience and i for one will be very very happy to see her on here. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks Pauline. Also, her immediate 'boss' is the guy who obviously owns the business but the other vet she is having a word with is absolutely brilliant!!!
Therefore, what she is going to do is ask him if he would'nt mind backing her up with any information that she may require in order to answer all the questions that are asked on here. Therefore its a case of waiting to see if at the end of the day, she will be happy to be part of the forum in this capacity.
It would be fantastic if we could do this as any forum that has a knowledgeable person in this field as part of its team would no doubt better it and members would feel by far more at ease knowing that if any problems arise with their pooches/other pets, they could obtain advice in the first instance without having to take a trip to the vets and incur more costs. Obviously we all know that anything serious and major would have to be dealt with by our own vets first and foremost.
Anyway, we shall see . xxxxxxxxxxxx

I really hope she joins in any case Lia the more the merrier but it would be great to have her boss to back her up with more complex things wow its like having an online 2nd opinion........... i also agree that anything more serious should be seen by the vet but it would also be great if we could ask advice about diagnosis etc i don't mean for them to give a diagnosis just its sometimes hard to pin a vet down and ask exactly whats what they tell you then disappear a bit like my consultant luckily i have friends that i can talk to and ask if i don't understand........... Tell your friend we will be gentle with her and give her at least 5 minutes to settle her in

LIa
I agree with what the others have said. She will be a great addition to the group. Always nice to have more opiniions and I like to have a place we can go if we have question and can't got hold of our vet for whatever reason. I do this on a couple boards. I use the information and go from there.
Look forward to hearing if she is able to join us.
Lia this a great idea and I do hope it happens . Sounds like your friend would be a real asset to the forum. We are all always grateful to any advise given here and to have someone on board with this kind of knowledge would be great. Fingers crossed you manage to pull it off :D xxx
Thank you both Bridget and Paula...........I will do my best as you know because I really want this forum to be the best for everyone. Thank you for your kind words xxxxxxxxxxx

Well Lia, I must say I would think this would be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
Bless your heart for doing this for us all...
I have had times where I have been desperate for advice, and its so nice to come on here and get it from so so many people who are using their shared experiences...to have someone who works in a vets would be utterly FAB!!!
Oh I hope it works out that will be so great xxx

Yes i agree, good idea, i personally think that in someways she could be better than a vet for giving advise (although agree with everyone else, if your pet is that sick then of course nobody should hesitate to take them to their own vet, but i think that goes without saying)., but i think sometimes vets are no different to doctors ,you could ask 4 of them and all would give a different opinion, and their pride stands in the way sometimes of admitting they could be wrong, however someone with an everday wealth of knowledge could be very usefull for everyday worry's without having the professional point of view, i look forward to picking her brains!!!!!!!!!!!xx
Thanks Nancy and Yvonne..............she has yet to confirm yet although she would be thrilled about being on here. I am hoping to find out on Monday if this is viable. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think that would be awesome Lia. You are covering all areas and have gone above and beyond a simple forum. I look forward to hearing from her.

I have tried telephoning Maxine but unfortunately the 'main guy' is there so its difficult for her to discuss anything with me. Just have to be patient I think xxxxxxxxxxx
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!!!
I have now managed to speak to Maxine during her break and she has agreed to come on in a 'advisory capacity' with any back-up/help (if needed) from one of the vets.
I am abolutely thrilled to bits and Im sure you will all make her very welcome. Im not just saying this for the sake of saying but she really is a lovely person and I know that you will like her loads.
And the vet Im referring to is fantastic - I think he is brilliant and it is he who always tends to my three - he is the only one I will make an appointment with and he knows my three inside out.
It will be a short while before Maxine joins because I need to set up a new section on here purely for this purpose only so I hope you can all wait just that little while longer.
Thanks very much for your support once again and for the pateince you have all shown.

Great news! Now we'll be able to ask someone in the know whether our pooches need the vet or not! I tend to wory too much and take my two to the vet for the slightest wee thing (and it costs a bomb!).
Thanks everyone! Im sure this section (when its up and running) will run smoothly xxx

It'll also b good to ask her the things that I'm too embarrassed to ask my vet about! Really basic questions that the vet laughs at you for asking ... I won't even say the last thing i asked my vet but she had a good old chuckle at me!

You will be fine with Maxine because she understands that some people have to know the most minutest thing and if you are like me, I have to know every detail inside and out no matter how trivial it may seem................its called peace of mind. xxxx

I must say they are really good with me, and especially when I first got Deez I was there panicking all the time and they were brilliant.
Also our vets dont charge for nurse visits so thats handy too xxx
