Tips to choosing a reputable dog breeder ;)
Ask the breeder some questions to make sure he knows what
he is talking about...ie specific questions about Lhasas and their needs/future problems etc
Make sure the breeder is not breeding 10 different breed at
the same time. A reputable breeder will concentrate on one breed,
maybe two similar ones maximum.
Ask to see where the puppy are raised. If the breeder does
not want you to see the place, it is not a good sign.
Ask for documentation about the puppy to see if it is
registered with the KC or other well known organizations.
A good breeder will ask YOU a lot of question about you
and your family to make sure the breed you want will fit
well in your environment and your lifestyle.
Ask the breeder at what age he lets the puppy goes. A
reputable breeder knows that it is very important for the
puppy to be with its mother until at least 6 weeks...preferably 8 weeks
Absolutely correct...................Lexi's pups will be with me until they are 10 weeks old without a doubt xxxxxxxxxxx

Nancy, this is not your fault. If the breeder wanted to keep Gucci for longer then she would have done. I personally think its far too young but this is only my view because at this age I think they should stay where they are for a bit longer to grow that bit bigger and stronger before they leave. Remember that this is only my personal view and feeling love. xx

Yes, I do understand what you are saying, and everywhere Ive read since says its best to leave them to socialise more.
But, I must say Gucci was from a litter of four......two died at birth, and one died aged two weeks (she was half Guccis size) so Mummy Dog wasnt at her best...Gucci had been weaned earlier due to this, and from what I can gather he was with the other adult Lhasas (4 of them) more so than his mummy...

Yes I agree with this thread to be of sound advice, My puppy's are never younger then 8 Weeks old before they goto there new homes and I always make sure they are eating properly and have some of there teeth, I wouldn't like to think that any breeder is letting there puppies goto there new homes before 8 weeks old....... But yet again this is my opinion and all breeders have there own way of thinking??? :)

Doesn't it state somewhere........... breed standard or kennel club that pups shouldn't leave until they are at least 8 weeks old? mine didn't leave till they were 8 weeks one of them was almost 5 months but that wasn't his fault or my desision i think that was too late for he as he needed to be socialised with his new owners and settled in by then.

I know some of the lhasa clubs have it in their rules that they can't go til 8 weeks. The breeder I got Raven from has a rule that 8 weeks is the earliest and she prefers them gone by 10-12 weeks because then the pup really starts to become part of the family and its harder for both them and the pup when it leaves.
The pup of Wicket's that is going to Chris's mum is going on Monday (7 weeks 2 days). I'll be much happier when he's at his new home and being looked after properly ... I'm going to be one of those interferring grans that you hear about ... Are you worming him? How's the toilet training? Is he sleeping through the night? How much and how often is he eating? .. I'll drive them nuts, but I'm worried about the poor thing. I'm not allowing them contact with Wicket and Raven (neither the pup nor the people) until he's had his second jag. He's only been wormed once since he was born so that's the first priority and I'm just worried in case anything gets over to my pups.

Thats a good point...Gucci is fully up to date on everything and he has his first vets appointment on Monday. Im well excited cos I will be getting a Puppy Pack! :D Its like the bOunty Bags that new mums get in hospital, and it has all samples and treats, toothbrush, coupons, toys etc in it. Also he will get an invitation to go to the Puppy Club that the vets run after hours for all the new puppies to socialise!! :D Im gonna get him chipped as well, and insured...
