View Full Version : final warning for Maggie
As you know Maggie has started to be naughty... well its got worse, she has started to go out but she comes in to have a wee UPSTARS, we have blocked her from going into my daughters room but she will go into any other room to releave herself. The final straw was friday night when she jumped on our bed & did a wee, Mr. Maggie has said I need to get her sorted out or she has to go!
I have had her out all day and still she has done a wee upstairs, I am at my wits end I have shouted at her and she just gives me 'that look' :o
She doesn't wee in the night just during the day, any suggestions????????????????????????????????
I have discovered why she is going into the undergrowth in the wood she's found a new friend a huge hedgehog!

Oh. Well, Diesel started doing this about 3 months after we got him, and every day I got in from work to find puddles...and then he started going upstairs and on the occasions I forgot to shut the bedroom door he had a whale of a time on 3 separate duvets......
I found that "Get Off" spray from Pets At Home really helped...I sprayed it on the bedroom doors and his other favourite spots downstairs. But it did take a while.
I never told him off for it UNLESS I caught him in the act.
He did eventually stop...but it felt at the time like it never would, so i know how you feel hun xx
Oh dear - poor Maggie! Oviously there will be a reason for this and the best way is to get to the bottom of it. How old is Maggie now?
Some pups take longer than others to learn 'where' and 'where not' they should urinate. Clean up all the areas where she has urinated with warm water and bi-carb.... this is great for eliminating smells because if she smells where she has urinated before, she will mark this spot again. Our pooches can smell what we can't. Put a safety gate on the inner kitchen door to prevent her from entering the rest of your house until you think her urinating can be controlled - just safety measures to begin with - obviously just do this dring the day and in the evening, keep a watchful eye - tedious and tiring but really needs to be done.
Have you thought that she may have contracted a urinary tract infection - this is among the more common urinary and bladder conditions. This can cause a frequent need to urinate. She might even have a bladder infection which also can cause regular passing of urine and she will have no control over this unless treated. Also, acute cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder caused by a bacterial infection.
It will be worth having her checked out first to see that there are'nt signs of inflammation/infection to her bladder. Does Maggie look as though she is in pain when she passes? Even if she is not, it could still be the onset of an inflammation or infection which if this is the case, will only become worse.
Obviously Maggie can only be 'told off' if she is caught in the act otherwise she will not know what she is being told off for but if she has contracted some type of infection, then she will have no control anyway. She may be urinating in the garden aswell as indoors if this is the case. Maybe she is not 'weeing' during the night because when she is asleep (just like us) the bladder is 'relaxed' - it's only movement of the body that 'awakens our insides' so to speak. Hope this helps. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is so weird! Raven has started peeing in the house too! She was perfect with her toilet training til she had her first season then she had a blip. She'll pee when she goes out in her walks but she's stopped peeing in the back garden and would rather do it in the bathroom. Luckily our bathroom has a tiled floor so it's easily cleared but I have no idea what's making her do it. She'll ome in from outside to go to the toilet and pee. I was thinking maybe it's because she could smell our pee in bathroom maybe? But now that I've read that maggie is suddenly peeing in the house too then I'm thinking there may be something more to it! Hmmm ... I can't think of any obvious reasons but maybe its an a phase? What age is maggie? Raven just turned one, but she is a wee bit slow in developing and I would say she probably is about 9 months mentally.
how strange maggie is coming up to 12 months old yes the bathroom is a hot spot for her. She had her first season a few months ago but this is a recent thing.
I aven't shouted at her when she had done it only when the trouble causer wees in front of me!!
I don't think she has an infection I think it 's just he devil in her, I have been flat out working and ignoring her maybe she needs more cuddles and attention as she aint getting the 110% she normally gets at the moment! Yesterday and today (touch wood) she hadn't done anything in the house. The kids had her in the field all day so she didn't have chance to sneek bad for a crafty wee!

Im sure she will come back to normal soon. Best wishes xxxxxxxxxxx

Oh dear, poor Maggie! My first thought was that she was probably attention seeking and if you've been busy lately that would probably explain it :P ! I would put a gate across the stairs to restrict her from getting to the bedrooms, so at least you haven't got soggy bedding :o ! I find that Molly (goldie) gets naughty if I'm busier than usual and does all sorts of things to get my attention, like pinching washing and raiding the kitchen bin and tapping on kichen door to go out but when I get up to let her out she changes her mind
Hopefully when things get back to normal she will stop doing it :P xxx

Going back to what Lia said about urine infections...Diesels had quite a few of those and it just takes a minute for the vet to do the paper strip test in the urine to see if they need antibiotics...my vets dont charge for this either...probably cos theyve watching me trotting up and down the road with a large bowl, wafting it under Diesels crown jewels every time he cocks his leg!!!!!!!!!!!They must think the comedy factor outweighs the money!!!!!!!!

Raven had a urine infection when she was a wee puppy. The test the vet does is simple ... but getting the pee sample in the first place isn't!!! I chased Raven around the back yard for half an hour trying to get her sample. Everytime she squatted she seen me placing the yellow "pee catcher" underneath her back end and she'd move to see what it was an wouldn't pee!

can i ask, when you let maggie out during the day, do you just open the door and let her have free run to come in and out the house through out the day as she pleases?
xxx
sorry I haven't been on for a few days my new lap top passed away! yes I do just let Maggie out to run free around the garden.
SHE HAS BLOODY WEED TWICE ON MY BED TODAY this is not funny anymore
her cuteness is definately wearing very thin at the moment. We are getting a baby gate for the bottom of the stairs in the morning I am going to buy the spray to see if that works, we are about to re carpet the whole house but I know I daren't whilst she is having a pickle EVERYWHERE! I am at my wits end with her. I watched her have a wee in the garden this afternoon but then she brought a dead bird in NOT GOOD! shes getting very FULL TIME at the mo!

can i suggest when you let her out into the garden instead of just leaving the door open for her to come and go as she pleases, try going outside with her each time (1st thing in the morning, after each meal time, and after she wakes up) its very time consuming, but i find this works (i do this from the day the puppy arives home with me) by standing outside with and having the door closed she will (should learn to toilet outside) with encouragement from you by saying something like (e.g. go pee pee, toilet time, on the grass, wee wee etc) and dont let her inside the house until she does something (it could take some time :? ) but as soon as she has a pee or poo the give loads of praise and make a wee fuss of her then and only then allow her back into the house
hope this makes sence, ive found this method works for all of my dogs, but i began this from the day i got the puppy home, ive since learned to wear cosy slippers/shoes, and have a coat ready at hand just incase its not such a nice day, and cos i dont want the neighbours to see me in my p-j's
it can also take some determination on our part as it can be pretty time consuming,
good luck xxx

Thats a good idea Pamela...
On a personal note, I am trying to get Gucci do it on the newspaper in his room for now...just kind of making the association with peeing and praise, as he is still ever so young. I finish work in two weeks for the summer, so then I will have the time and patience to do the outdoor training properly xx

Hey hun, I just found this site which helps with many behaviour problemsxxx
http://www.dogbehaviour.com/behaviourpr ... oiling.htm (http://www.dogbehaviour.com/behaviourproblems/dogs/yourdog/soiling.htm)
Yes I agree with Pamela because I did exactly the same with my three but it was mainly with Honey being the first to arrive and Lexi and Bruce followed suit with Honey so really it was made easier for me. It is time consuming but it worked xxxxxxxx

we did the same with blue as he was the only dog at the time so once he learned when we got callan we did the same (going outside etc as i mentiond in last post) and with him following blue he learned that bit quicker it was just the same with miss emerald (we did just the same as before and again she copied the others) and so the pattern followed on with the rest of the pooches xxx

To me Pamela, I personally think it is so much easier toilet training when there are more than one dog.......as we have both been successful in doing. It has to be - like follow the leader :D :D :D :D

Oh dear, Maggie may need that little bit longer in training and I understand this weather does not help - its been the same here to be honest and my three have going out in the rain. Have you tried DAP - you plug it into your socket (preferably where Maggie spends most of her time indoors) and it emits pheromones which 'calms' pooches and de-stresses. It has had good reports on helping tremendously with urination problems. I know its quite expensive (at my vets its about £18 but all vets differ in price). Give it a go, you never know - it could do the trick. Hope this helps xx
Thanks for that I think she is just to lazy and its the devil in her, it's throwing it down AGAIN today and its going to rain till next Monday GREAT! at least it saves me watering my baskets!!! I am going back to square one with Maggie I am finding it difficult as my cocker was so easy to train (as were my other 2 cockers!) I did have my cocker caged at night a lot longer than I have done with Maggie I a going to have to get to grips with her! I will win in the end but it's frustrating when she does a sneeky wee and you haven't caught her in the act! she did get into the bathroom yesterday and did a wee and poo she knew that I was mad but when she popped her head around the door I couldn't shout at her because she is so cute   and I didn't catch her 'in the act'

Hi Cheryl
Just wondering how Maggie has been doing since your last post..............has she got a little better now? Or is she still playing the little 'devil'? lol xxxx
Hi again Cheryl
Just found this product that you may be interested in..............
Its called Oops! and its a specially formulated spray that contains a blend of enzymes that rapidly ingests the proteins created by urine. Uric Acid crystals are extremely insoluble and remain firmly bonded to surface materials but this product has had the 'thumbs up' as it eliminates the stain and odour that bleach, disinfectants. odour neutralisers and masking agents can't remove.
There's also a powder form. You pour the powder onto the problem area and in seconds it will turn all the 'liquid/urine' into a substance that is easy and safe to clear up as well as leaving a nice smell.
£9.99 each from www.robharvey-environmental.co.uk
This may be your answer as in keeping the 'soiled' areas free from Maggie returning to it. xx

Sorry, I just saw this. I may have some helpful tips. This is a copy the training manual for the Behavior Helpline at the Humane Society. I get this problem all the time and go through this step by step with the people, then I recommend training courses. If you follow this remedy it will work. It is usually the people that need the training, dogs need rehabilitation. I still have trouble with Flower in this area but I am not consistant.

Ceasar says the Human is supposed to be calm/assertive when disiplining a dog, so you are not supposed to get overly excited when praising them for the good deed.
Might be my problem with Flower. I stink at potty training, but I have tile floors and really good mops. Hahaha!!!

hehehe, I can just see him chasing the mop. You have to get a video for us.
I have my trusty spray bottle with Lemon Pine Sol and paper towels for in between. I have to scrub the grout with a brush at least three times a week and I mop every day. I really need to step up the potty training process with Flower. She is the only culpret.
Flower will get there eventually Anj......she's a doll!!! And as for Lemon, I swear by Lemon as its brilliant and cuts through anything - I love using it :-D xxxxxx
