Hi all,

I'm considering having a go at Showing and now I have a bit more time on my hands to do the grroming and attend the shows I really feel its the right time, especially when Asha is 5 months old.

I've had some contact with my stud owner who is experienced at showing and she said to check her scissor bite is reversed (which it is) and that her teeth are straight (which they are. She has 6 bottom teeth inbetween fangs which I understand is what they need but they are not yet fully out the gum, I'm assuming this is normal given her age etc).

She's also told me to start training her fur now as well as get her to some ring-side training classes???

Now, call me thick but what happens at these classes and does anyone know where I can find out info on where they are situated etc?

if you contact your local council and the kennel club they should be able to tell you where your nearest training classes are
at the classes you will learn how to show your pooch, how to stand them on the table for the judge to go over, how to move/gait them going around the ring, how to preseant them, the person running the class should also help you obtaining scheduals to enter your first shows, if not again contact the kennel club and ask for a list of forthcoming shows, you then find a show you'd like to enter and phone the secretary who will then send you out a schedual, if your unsure on how to fill them out ask one of us on here, a freind who shows, the secretary of the show
hope this helps a bit, if your still unsure just ask thats what we're all here for xxx

Well that info is great, it gives me more of an insight into whats what. I'm going to ring the dog training woman that we have taken all our dogs to to see if she knows anywhere local too. I'm planning on taking Asha to dog training soon too but I think they have to be 6mths before they're allowed to train.

Thanks again.

most training classes i know accept dogs once theve had all the vaccinations/ about 12 weeks old or so
dogs in the show ring have to be 6 months old
if you get a cheap show lead you could start to practice in the garden just now, (just back and forth, or walk in a triangle shape) so the dogs get the feel of whats its like
i dont take my pooches to ringcraft classes any more (too far to travel) so i practice in the garden, local park and car park
i get my mum and friends to help out, we all take a dog as ive 5 pooches and pretend we're at a show, so they get the feel of other dogs walking in front and behind them like in the show ring xxx

Aw...I have visions of Pamela and Claire now being svelte Barbara Woodhouses strutting round their gardens going "WAAAALKIEEEEES" and all the neighbours twitching their nets and tutting "The weirdos are out again!" heheheheheheheheheeeeeee!!!!!!!!
Sometimes I lay on the grass to get photos of Diesel and make silly noises to get his attention, so Im sure my neighbours think Im demented too :D

:D :D :D :D :D :D Well, heres my confession.
Last Wednesday I thought I would be clever and climb my 6ft fence to get to the alleyway rather than walking up the garden through the house and down the alleyway - lazy cow I am......
Well, all was going well until I caught the bottom of my trousers on the fence...ended up suspended upside down by my trouser leg dangling into the alleyway...thank god nobody was walking through at the time....
