View Full Version : Should I be worried?

Hi folks

I'm going tonight to look at wicket's pups with chris (my partner's) mum and dad. They love wicket to bits and just really want a little clone of him, so they want one of his boys. I went to see the pups at 4 and a half weeks and although they were active, neither of them could walk or stand up yet. I've never been around pups of that age, but when I got wicket at 5 weeks and when I first went to see Raven at 5 weeks, they were both walking and playing and had been for a week or more. Should I be worried that these pups are not doing it (and don't seem to want to try)? If they aren't walking tonight (5 and a half weeks) should I advise them not to buy one of them?

Not sure...but the puppy I met last week was five weeks old and bouncing around my kitchen, wagging its tail and squeaking lots.....

mmmmmmmm think id be a bit concerned because miss emeralds were up and about by that age, it was a case of watch where you step they were everywhere, and others ive known have been up and about aswell, it could be that theyre wee lazy buggers and just need that bit longer or it could be more serious, wait till you see them again, they might be up and about this time you go xxx

No. Forgive me for saying this but i'm not entirely sure the breeder is worried at all. She didn't take the bitch to the vet after she was 6 hours without an afterbirth or next pup. I'd've had raven rushed in there after 4 hours (at the most).

The owner of the pups (I wouldn't call her the breeder since it was an accident) is keeping one of the pups. That would make me want to make sure they were in the best of health if it was me. She's keeping the whiter one - the one that wasn't breathing when it was born - which has a really bad umbilical hernia and seems a little subdued. They were at the vet when they were a day old because the mum's health was failing but they never got checked as the mum wouldn't let the vet near her pups. I'd've taken them to the vets to make sure they were in perfect condition because they were 2 big babies.

As far as I know, they are still not walking :( but maybe they have and the woman just hasn't told me.

They are starting to get weaned onto subsititute milk with a baby rusk in it because the woman didn;t want to pay £25 for the puppy poridge. I just hope the pups are getting all the nutrition they need as the mum only eats wiskas cat food and not even very much of that. I really hope she puts the pups onto dog food soon - they are almost 6 weeks old.

I'm getting quite anxious about the whole thing and chris's parent have bought the pup without even seeing it.

Crikey, she really doesn't sound like she's taking very good care of mum or the pups. I always thought that cat food was bad for dogs, poor mum and poor pups. I hope things turn out ok for Chris' mum and dad, especially as they've not seen the pup they've bought yet. :) xxx

I second that....I would have Chris's parent's take the puppy and at this age it should be okay. They may have more time to work with the puppy. I'd get it to the vets and have them look it over.

Good god, I hope these pups are surviving - the way she is going the pups will not have any nutrition in their system and neither will the Mum and she definitely needs building up but not on b****y cat food!!!!! Cat food is very high in protein and although bitches need a higher level of protein when they are carrying and a bit after, cat food is not the way!!! Does she not know this??

I just cannot believe some people and it really makes me so angry!!! If it were me, I'd have to go and check even if I had to take some proper food myself because I would have to think about the Mum and pups...........but thats just me. I'd make an excuse and just say that its spare food I didnt use and would she like it....anything to give these poor pooches some nutritious food xx
