View Full Version : Why?
Ok, some of you may know the following but some may not............I know I was shocked and I found this out today................
Friskies, Boneo, Winalot. Spillers, Felix, Fido, PURINA, Bakers and more are owned by..........................NESTLE ??????????
Pedigree, Caesar, ROYAL CANNIN and JAMES WELLBELOVED, NUtro and more are owned by....................MARS ????????
Iams and Eukanuba and more are owned by .................................................. ..........................PROCTER & GAMBLE ?????
Hills and more are owned by................................................ ..............................................COLG ATE & PALMOLIVE ???????
This was the find and its results found in 2007 so how many more are on the list? And what on earth has Colgate, Proctor, Mars and Nestle got in common with dog food???? This is where the animals are tested on.....................look at the list again and you will see exactly what I mean.
This is outrageous..................think before you buy folks, I know I would xxxxxxxxx

yup, i hear what your saying lia, but some dogs are fussy on what they eat, ive tries mine on burns which they dont like but will eat arden grange, but also these foods are quite expensive so perhaps some folks may not be able to afford these natural holistic foods,
but i think some dogs foods have been going for years now, so really there no need to continue animal testing (just my wee opinion :) ) xx

Nestle, Mars and Proctor and Gamble own most companies that make every day food and household products including the dog foods. I know people who do the mathematical modelling for household products before they go on sale and before they are tested on animals or people and when you ear the stuff they can be working on at the same time it's quite frightening. (And so is their findings sometimes!)
These brands originally start off independent and then a big company like one of these 4 come in and offers them shed loads of money for their product and brand name. It's only a matter of time before burns / arden grange / whoever are bought over and commercialised too. The only thing I can say is that each brand is treated completely differently and is aimed at a different market. For example, pedigree is aimed at everyday dog owners who buy their dog food at the supermarket while royal canin is aimed at people who buy their food in a pet shop and who want more from their food e.g. breeders, exhibitors.

Sorry, just re-read that post - I'm a complete geek knowing that. Sorry! <hangs her head in shame>
Hey there, I was only posting what my findings are - nothing else - just thought that if certian members didnt know, they ought to do because I would rather line my own pockets with money rather than line the 'company's pockets' - because the companies I have listed will make huge profits as Im sure you will know which to me is only fair if they are genuine about the product they sell...............and if not, then its us as the purchaser that suffers each and every time and we have to think of our pooches too. My vew only and Im sure we are all entitled to our own views - everyone to their own xxxxxxxxxx

Sorry Lia, I only meant that as information, I didn't mean it to sound as though I was having a go. I was looking at a job with one of the manufacturing companies as a modeller and I just thought I'd share what I found out.
I feel bad now, sorry.

It is great to see this topic, this is close to my heart. I try to do all my shopping ethically. I NEVER buy Nestle, Proctor and Gamble, Colgate, Mars, L'oreal, Smith Glaxo Kline, Johnson and Johnson, and Unilever. You can find a list of companies that do NOT test on animals on the PETA website. I have never had a problem finding an alternative and not always is it more expensive. There is no excuse for these companies to be testing unethically now and we as consumers can force them to change.
I feed my dogs on the BARF diet and it is no mre expensive than a mid range complete food and I know what they are eating. When I was feeding a processed food, either Burns or Arden Grange or something similar mine could be fussy, but not now they eat everything I offer them with gusto!
