Has anyone had problems with having dew claws removed and has anyone encountered any problems from their vets as to whether they agree to remove the claws or not. My vet will only remove back dew claws. Lia xxx

Diesel had an infected dew claw a couple of months ago following a scuffle with another dog...he needed an antibiotic jab from the vet for it...

Ollie didn't have any they were removed when he was a couple of days old and Shadows too. Tia had dew claws and it drove me mad and must have been painful for her at times they were just floppy things that weren't attached to anything but skin, when i groomed her many times i would think it was a knot in her fur and try to get it out then realise that the claw had caught between the teeth in the comb. 1 of them became very sore a friend whose vet does remove them did this for me under anaesthetic. They never bothered her from having them off till this day it was the best thing i did.
I do agree that some dogs use them when eating bones etc. but Tia was too ladylike to chew a bone like that and even if she did her coat would just tangle up in it her dew claws were neither use nor ornament.

:) Yes very true indeed - to me I believe they should all come off. My three dont have any, front or back, and I can imagine the grooming like you say and getting stuck between the teeth of the comb. I will have another word with my vet - Im going tomorrow actually. xx
