Hi all
Well, this morning raven woke me up (as per usual) with her yelp letting me know she's up and needs a wee. It was a little earlier than normal ( :x ) but up I got and let her out the back. She went out the back for about 5 mins then bolted passed me and managed to get up stairs beofre I could catch her. I got up into my room and there she is in my bed snuggled up next to her dad (I swear she wants to replace me!). I promptly picked her up and put her on the ground so I could get back in bed myself. I figured she just wanted up stairs and it was easier to leave her than play "let's out smart the lhasa" because she's smarter than I give her credit for.
Well, Wicket had come upstairs at the same time as Ravy but he just lay at the top of the stairs guarding us. After I had been in bed for about 5 mins, Wicket came running into the room and jumped on me. It's not like him so I figured something must be up. As I got up Raven jumped up onto our bed again with her pathetic little whimper while I went to investigate. Poor little Raven had had a very bad case of diarrhea all over our bathroom, and obviously when she jumped up onto our bed it was on it too. It must've came on suddenly as the back door was still open and its not like her to have accidents in the house. At least she went in the tiled bathroom and not on any of the carpeted rooms.
What caused it?
Yesterday she had a few things that I would never normally give her so any of them might've caused it. Which do you think is more likely:
- she had a whole slice of bernard mathews turkey ham (she'd normally share with wick and they only get a slice once in a blue moon)
- she had a tiny (less than a 5p piece sized) piece of raw steak last night.
- she has been eating a lot of carrots recently and - sorry for being graphic - they quite clearly hadn't digested.
- she recently started taking angel eyes food supplement
Another reason is
- she is obsessed with the rats and keeps trying to bite their heads off. Could something about the rats be cuasing it?
I'm keeping a close eye on her today but I'm worried in case it's something more than food related.
[Wicket isn't right either. His bowels etc is fine, but he's just in a funny mood - very clingy and mopey. He's been like that for about a week now (since before we got the rats)]

Oh hun Im so sorry to hear she isnt doing so well......how strange cos Diesel went out for his early morning wee and came back upstairs and threw up...again, he usually makes it out the back door first...
He is mopey too...so maybe there is a bug in the air?
It could be food related...
My vets always say go by the colour and consistency of the diarrhoea...sorry to be graphic!!! Maybe give your local vet a ring, they will be able to tell you if there is a bug doing the rounds...

Aw, poor Raven, hope she's feeling a bit better now!
I suppose any of those things could have upset her tummy. I've heard that ham sometimes doesn't agree with some dogs. My Molly (GR) loves it but Ebony won't even touch it. Molly also once had a small piece of raw beef (well she pinched it, while I was getting tea ready  ) and that went right through her. She also once ate a rat, right in front of my eyes :o . It was already dead and I was worried that it may have ingested rat poison so I rang the vets to check and they said that even if it had died of poison it wouldn't be enough to kill a dog. Dogs and humans can catch a disease from rats though, although dogs usually are vaccinated against it, it may be worth checking with the vets just in case. xxx

Hope she is doing OK now hun? After my last post I had Diesel snuggled up into me, and I put my arm around him, and we both fell asleep for an hour!! :o Hes very quiet today, so Im hoping Raven just has a bug like he has... :)
Ahh .........Hope Raven is ok honey.
As mentioned it could be any of the things mentioned or maybe none. We all have our off days as they say.
If your worried than just speak to the vet I'm sure they'll put your mind at rest.
Give her a big cuddle from all us here . xxx

I know from working in the animal hospital that if a dog gets diarreah you feed your dog boiled chicken and rice adding no salt or spices of any kind. Just bland. They will eat it up and their tummies will feel better. It works for my crew everytime.
Raw steak is really not the best for them. My mother likes to give my dogs treats of fresh large cow bones with the marrow still inside and raw meat still stuck to the outside. It keeps them busy for hours but the next day they all have the runs. I told my mother not to get them anymore. I think that may have been the culpret.
Poor baby. I hope Raven feels better and Wicket doesn't get it too.

Yesterday all I fed her was some plain scrambled egg (egg to bind her and all that). She's not done the toilet today yet so I'm waiting to see how that goes (lovely thought eh?). She a lot more active today and she doesn't seem so miserable so hopefully it was just one of these things. And for the first time in about 3 months, she slept through the night!!!! I was so worried when I was woken up by my alarm that I ran downstairs to check she was ok.
I passed on all your hugs!
I'll give you a quick wee update later after our morning walk.

Well .. what can I say. Raven only peed this morning so I don't know if she's feeling better, but now wicket seems to have whatever it was so I thinkn maybe they've picked up a bug from somewhere. They go to that many training classes that it wouldn't surprise me.
Hi Kim
Sorry only just seen this post. I am definitely going to say its the raw meat without a doubt!!!!! If I were you, don't bother giving any raw meat from now on.
Also make sure yo dont have any slug pellets in your garden (with exception of pots) because it is poisenous and an intravenous drip is required if this happens. I called at the vets again yesterday because I forgot wormers and flea medication for Honey and Bruce. There was a dog brought in and had to be on a drip because he had swallowed these slug pellets which as we know are poisonous.
I really hope that Raven is feeling much better now, bless. Let us all know. Love Lia xxx

Just a wee update for you all. Raven and Wicket both came down with whatever it was, but my sister's dog didn'tso I think it must just've been the raw meat or the carrot or something. A couple of days eating only scrambled egg has made them all better!
Thanks everyone for your good wishes! Wicket sends a big kiss (coz he's a good boy!).

Very true Nancy.......................infact got up this morning and when Honey came in from the garden she was looking a bit off and a bit quiet so I had a good check of her to find that her 'business' was stuck in her anal passage.................I know this is not an illness as such but I squeezed her glands and out it popped giving her much relief ......................the point Im trying to make is that we always drop everything and see to our poppets and our kiddie winks first and foremost as you say :P :P
A little concerned when reading this post about little Raven.
There are many things that can cause upset stomachs.
Please make sure that all of yours rats are away from your apso's.
As rat faeces does cause stomach upset.
Also introducing new adatives like angel eyes can cause stomach upset
Raw meat is also another factor if your apso's are not used to it.
Carrots are generally really good for your apso's as they contain the following Nutritional facts
Serving Size: 1 medium carrot (78g)
Calories 35
Calories from Fat 0 % Daily Value*
Total Fat 0g 0%
Saturated Fat 0g 0%

MY apso's love carrot raw, cooked, mashed anyway you want to give it them.
Getting your apso's to eat vegetables is good for them.
If they were not, then why are the maufacturors now introducing them
into major brands???
A little tip for you,
always keep a bottle of kaolin pediatric on hand at home
Its good enough for children with Diarrhoea etc,
then it is good enough for our apso's.

I will tell you another little secret.
Don't waste your money by getting this medication from your vet.
As they only give the same stuff,
but put a different label on it.
With a higher price tag.
One of my girls suffered with hay fever,
I used to give her antihistamine tablets that
I bought from Tesco's,
think they were 0.80p per packet.
Make sure they are the non drowsy.
I would give her one a day for a week,
then leave her off for a week,
then back on for a week.
It helped her no endless.
Kerry 'the lhasa Doc' is back       xxxxxxxxxxx
