Diesel was malnourished and underweight when I got him aged 10 months old...but the vet said his growth was probably stunted due to having lived in a small box...
After 6 months, he was still a little tinsy, so we put him back onto puppy food and added Soya Oil to each meal...this helps them bulk up and keeps the weight on too.
He is now a healthy 6.6 kgs so Im sure it worked!
But then, what suits one doesnt always suit another...
But Soya Oil can be bought cheaply and easily in litre bottles and lasts a long time :D

How much soya oil did you give him? I'm still trying to put weight on Raven. I'm getting there slowly but I'm sure the soya oil would help a lot.

Oooh only a tablespoon in each meal!! Or maybe two!!! It also keeps their coats in nice condition, and their poohs are...erm...nicer? Not sure if poohs can be "nice" though...!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

My girl Blossom has a tendency of putting on weight easily, as she eats anything in sight. We are trying to cut down on her treats at the moment to see if this helps. :D :D

well i know this isn't a lhasa but my boy callan had his booster today and got weighed  ooops no more treats for him this month, because of his leg problems the vet said its best to get him down by a few kilos, so he's gonna be getting lots of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflour to bulk up his meals instead of pigs ears and raw hide chews as treats xxxx

OOh dear, we always hear that from our vet when we take Molly. She's always on the chunky side, as they so nicely put it  How much does Callan weigh? Molly is about 38 kgs. I know she could do to lose a bit but she is a big boned dog. She would eat and eat and eat and eat though if she could! xxx

he weighed in at 34.5 so the vet wants him down to 31 and she'll be happy (callan wont :( )
long walks today, and half his morning breakfast and when her fetches the post ony one bonio for all the post instead of a wee buscuit for each letter
he's gonna hate me by the end of the week or even the end of the day (oh nooooo) xx

oh me aswell, ive already slipped up  :? there was a heap of post today and he collected them all one at a time, i did give him his bonio (broke it in half so he thought he was getting 2) but then he looked at me with those im so hungry and do you love me eyes so i crumbled and gave him a custard cream that i was about to have with my cuppa, oh this is gonna be so hard, coz he's my boy
och i think ill leave for work early and have my lunch when im there so callan canna give me anymore sad puppy dog eyes
i think for the next month im gonna have to move out, so i canna give him any sneaky treats xx

:D :D he, he! It's soooo hard though cos they think you don't love em and they've done something wrong when they suddenly can't have what they're used to. Mmm, I wonder how many pieces a bonio will break into. Molly loves a carrot to crunch on, that's as good as a biscuit for her! Good luck  xxx

Oh, I know/knew a good recipe for biscuits for dogs on a diet. If I can find it i'll post it in the recipe bit. It was one off one of the dog telly programmes. My sister made them for her rottie.

I never feed my three any 'fat' and trim all fat away!!! If I make 'Toad in the Hole' for example, I always save one sausage and grill it so that the fat runs away and this one sausage is shared between all three. I do my best to not overload them with high fat foods because I always think that "it takes 2 weeks to put weight on but it could be 2 years to get it off again"......so I am very careful. I think Bruce has maybe put some weight on because of late he does seem a tad heavier and I know he is chunky anyway but I can't see his bones suddenly expanding but again, he does not 'look' overweight if this makes sense xxx
