Diesel had a cherry eye when I got him...which had been left unattended....
His cherry eye was stitched back down and was a success.
Sadly, due to that and also his early malnutrition, he now has Dry Eye.
His eyes do not produce enough tears, so he has Optimmune eye ointment every day.
This costs £35-£40 for a 3 gramme tube, which lasts a month.
He is subsequently prone to conjunctivitis.
Poor wee soul! :(

Wicket had man made eye trouble which led to a few vet bills (but luckily he's insured). It's a long story and perhaps one more suited to a grooming nightmare thread! I won't go into much detail hear but I'll tell you the horror ending:

He had stitches in his eye (inside of his lower eyelid). I kept checking him and I noticed that one of his eyes was red. I had a quick look in his eyelid and I could see a dissolving stitch that hadn't dissolved. I rushed him down to the vet in the morning and the vet looked at it and said it must be pure agony for him as it was digging straight into his eyeball. The vet said "can you hold him very still as this is going to be very painful". She then took out a pair of scissors and cut the stitch out, skin and all! The stitch was covered in skin and she just cut it clean out. Wicket didn't even yelp (and that's not like him coz he is a wee sensitive soul when it comes to pain). The vet said it was so painful in his eyeball tha her cutting out the stitch would be less painful than it digging in.

Now he has a permanent squint in that eye and looks like he's had cherry eye or something as you can see the start of his third eyelid in the corner as it never opens fully.

OMG Kim, the poor mite!!! God he must have been in pure agony! Im surprised that if the vet cut skin too that he did'nt need another stitch for the skin that was cut out    Poor lamb but even though he has this squint, I bet you love him no less than before - if anything even more. I cringed reading this. He is ok now is'nt he? xxx

He's ok now but he's really sensitive about his right eye. It now gets a lot of gunk in the corner and its a nightmare trying to get it out. He doesn't trust anyone near his eyes. He'll let me have a look and clear it but if anyone else goes near them he runs and you need to search under the beds til you find him.

I definitely love him more. He had a horrible start in life and I've made it my job to make it brilliant since I got him at 5 weeks old (yup, there's the clue that he had a bad start!).

Crikey kim...............5 weeks old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well if anyone has told you, this sort of thing gets right up my nose BUT, thank god someone like you was there to give him the life he so deserves..............I dread to think what could have happened if you did not find him!!! I can also understand his sensitivity too. xxxx

What worries me is that the poor pooches that have eye trouble and their owners cant be bothered to fork out the bill to have their pooches eyes seen to so they go on and on suffering. I know that we genuine dog lovers dont do this but I would imagine that there are some out there that dont care from what Ive seen on TV and read in the papers. God we all know what its like to have a problem with our own eyes!!! xx
